As Manchester United’s pursuit for Right Back continues,
another name has joined the list. Last week Seamus Coleman emerged as a Target,
and now Italian Right Back International Matteo Darmian has come up.
Torino’s Matteo Darmian was exception last season, and the
25 year old has attracted a lot of interest from Manchester United in
particular. One of the most prominent journalists in Italy Gianluca Di Marzio
reported that Manchester United have joined the race to buy the former AC Milan
full-back.
Furthermore, he reported that Manchester United have bid £8.5 Million plus £2.5 Millions on add ons. Torino however has
slapped a £15 Million price tag on Darmian. Sky Italia today reported that Manchester
United are coming back with an improved big.
The 25-Year old is now approaching his prime;
he arguably has been the best Right-Back in Serie A for the past 18 months.
Darmian had his best season with Tornino last season, as his team finished
ninth in league as well as reaching the Europa League’s last 16.
Before shifting to right-back position, he formerly played as a wide midfielder. Darmian is proficient in the wing-back position on either side. The Italian is very good going forward, however it’s the defensive side of his game fter he switched from a wide midfielder to wing-back that has seen him improve and develop his defensive side of the game.
Antonio Valencia was the first choice
Right-Back for Manchester United last season, and it became clear that the Ecuadorian
is inept to do defensive duties in big games. His attacking side too has been woeful most of
the time, his crossing is consistently criticized and Manchester United fans
have been left frustrated by his performances for most part.
Manchester United’s priority should be to
get a good right-back, and Darmian is one of the best options. His tactical awareness
is also something which Louis Van Gaal would prefer.
It remains to be seen whether the reports of a second bid is true or not, but the pre season is fast approaching and Manchester United need to act fast.
