Bastian Schweinsteiger : The Midfield General Manchester United Need

The transfer window over the years has brought lots of frustration when it comes to midfielder. It wasn’t until last season that United got a decent midfielder in Ander Herrera from Atletic Bilbao. He was of course a good signing, but Bastian Schweinsteiger is on another level. Captain of Bayern Munich and World Cup winners Germany, he is one of the best Midfielder of our generation.  The Bavarian started his career at Bayern, but the possibility of him ending his career looks bleak.

After years of waiting for Midfield general like Roy Keane, the Red Devils might finally be getting one. They finally have got a player available in market who can help the Attack as much as in Defence. Micheal Carrick is now 33, and has suffered lots of injury in past seasons. Manchester United did buy Daley Blind last summer, but he is not yet good enough to start week in week out for a Title Chasing club.

It is of course arguable that Bastian is coming to descant; he simply isn’t as good as he was in his prime. But one must remember he lead his country to a world cup victory in 24 years, just a year back. In the recent past United fans have felt there has been no steel in midfield.  A figure, who can dominate opponents, be ruthless.

Great United teams have always been have always had fighters in their ranks, be nasty if need be. And if they can snap up Ramos too, this team will again have that merciful aura about them. They will be feared, teams that come to play against United will identify that they are no pushovers in tight battle.

Lots of voices have given their opinion on both the saga, most common concern seem to be that both Ramos and Schweinsteiger are old. The mere presence of two world cup winning players will make United a better team. Both are tremendous leaders in their own right, both are gritty; both have won everything there is to win. Just imagine having them in your dressing room, knowing you can fully count on two of the best players of past decade.

It remains to be seen how serious both players are about joining United, they might just be using United as a way to get better contract. It is a possibility; it has happened in the past and will of course happen in future. But reports of both being unsettled at their club has come from within, it is not just tabloids doing click bait stories.

At Bayern, Alonso is more preferred by Pep Guardiola. And with Thiago Alcantara, Javi Martinez, not to forget Lahm and Alaba being played in Midfield, he is now not a guaranteed starter at Bayern. He also does not look settled in Pep’s system.
