Real Madrid Under Rafa Benitez - Midfield Part III

So, continuing the discussion about Real Madrid's Midfield

Toni Kroos can play anywhere in the midfield, just like Luka Modric. Toni can play defensive role better than Modric, he has proved himself as an Attacking Midfielder, Center Attacking Midfielder, Defensive Midfielder and of course as Defensive Midfielder. Kroos is especially known for his passing above his other assets like intercepting, tackling, distributing passes, scoring goals from outside the box and assisting. When he passes the ball, he literally shoots the ball, it stays so low and ends up at the feet of the one who is to receive the pass. Moving on to the next Midfielder.

James Rodriguez, the Colombian star. He was signed in the same transfer window as Kroos was signed. The departure of Anger Di Maria and Xabi Alonso disturbed the whole balance of the team, James was signed after the Worldcup for 80 million euros. He won the Golden Boot at the Worldcup and was the star performer for Columbia and saw them till Quarterfinal of the worldcup. He was outstanding in the worldcup, he had moved to AS Monaco just an year ago for 45 million Euros from porto. He was labelled as overpriced, when the transfer was complete, but nobody knew he'd prove everybody wrong with his performance.

When he arrived at Real Madrid, he wasn't allowed to play on his preferred position, that is Attacking Midfielder.Carlo needed te balance in the Midfield, and Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzima were no replaceable in the forward lineup. Moreover Carlo Ancelotti preferred to play 4-3-3 formation compared to 4-2-3-1. So there would be no Attacking Midfielder or second striker in his formation. Also Carlo Ancelotti wanted a cover for Gareth Bale, so he decided to use James Rodriguez as Right Midfielder. James was very influential in the first season itself, he scored important goals and some spectacular goals, and assisted so many goals too. He was the engine of the Real Madrid team last season.

Whereas this season it remains to be seen how Rafa will use him. He surely has to be the starter under Rafa. Right wing is the probable destination for james, although he'd like to play as Attacking Midfielder. But Rafa has some other plans.

This is it, stay tuned for more on this.
